Carol Stoker - Owner and Founder
Hello, my name is Carol and I am the Owner and Founder of A Friendly Face (Under Wraps!).
I launched the business due to a conversation with an elderly neighbour of my late Mam. She lived on her own with no family close by and, on some days, the only interaction with another human was the staff on the tills at her local Morrisons store.
One day, the neighbour walked past us while we were sitting in the garden, and did not look up at us, so I asked her if she was ok. She turned to speak to us with sadness in her eyes and said that recently the staff had changed in the store, and now no one gives her eye contact or says hello. She said most days they are the only people she speaks to and now she doesn't get to speak to anyone.
My heart went out to her, and I thought of how many other people, not just the elderly, but people who were lonely, were in the same situation. I also wondered why customer service had deteriorated since the COVID 19 pandemic.
When I left the University of Sunderland, where I was the Marketing Hub Manager, I decided to start my business to improve customer service, which in turn leads to positive reviews and a higher volume of footfall and, alongside that, offering customer service training to a high standard.
